BIOLOGY
Biology is the study of all living things, all the organisms and processes around us, including ourselves. The goal of this class is to cultivate scientific literacy in students so that they gain curiosity about, understanding of, and the ability to question and evaluate information in the modern world.
All people are responsible for their own well-being, as well as the state of the biosphere today and in the future, and thus must be informed and skillful in making all decisions concerning life on this planet.
Content includes: scientific inquiry, classification, structures and functions of organisms, biochemistry, heredity, genetics, ecology, evolution, and importance of the above in today’s world.

Week of 3/30/20 - 4/3/20 last week of quarter 3. Assignments and report cards due before the end of the week.
- Monday: Check over your grade in my class. Make sure I caught all the assignments you sent me. Please tell me if I missed anything! No BWs this week.
- Tuesday-Thursday: Choose one or more (if you need to raise your grade) of the following assignments.
Listen to as many of the "This Podcast Will Kill You" episodes as you like, and take notes. A page of notes = one assignment.
For extra-credit, check out the following Instagram accounts and tell me what you learn: med.base , iss , its_about_chemistry , beautifulwithbrainsofficial , namib_naude , pawsitivechangeprogram , science.feed , rocketrundown , joelsartore , shazzjung , jam_and_germs , yorkshire.fossils
- Friday: go back and check over to make sure you've done all the requirements for the past 3 weeks before your report card comes in. Talk to me immediately if something isn't right.
Past work:
Week of 3/23/20 - 3/27/20 last week
2. Watch this video. Explain biomagnification to me in your own words.
3. If you get this flash simulation to work on your computer, tell me how you were able to save the bird.
4. Read about owls eating rats in Michigan. Tell me what you learned and what you think about it.
5. On this page, look through all the graphs. Find the graphs with exponential and logistic growth trends. Describe those trends using the language from the graphs (never call it a line, etc.).
6. On here, choose two cameras to check on 3 days in a row. Tell me what the birds did differently.
IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF EXTRA-CREDIT to raise your grade, carefully read the examples on the first page of this packet, then try to correctly answer as many of the questions as you can. Remember: to describe the trend, you never call it a line, but use the specific words from the labels on those specific graphs.
